The Walgreens’ company profile has Health & Wellness in their tagline, which is a sick joke. The climate in their stores alone is toxic, and it’s been brewing for a long time, leading to a young man getting a bullet to the back of his neck. Walgreens can try to pass the buck by blaming a contract security company, but for those of us who’ve experienced the hostility going in and coming out can verify, from the janitors to the managers these folk have no love. The place is foul, maybe going back to 1901, I don’t know? But what’s certain is a pattern of blatant disregard, and no person who respects his or herself should walk into an environment like that.
Back in the day Sav-on drug store used to be in hood, and they were the only place that sold Dr. Tichenor’s. Sav-on went ghost and CVS pharmacy took over, but they failed to carry my beloved mouthwash. Their rival Walgreens also interloped into the area, but they just happened to carry what keeps my mouth oh so fresh. A price to pay would be an understatement…
I noticed at times when I would go in, the various managers on duty would track me around the store. Me being a plainclothes pro, knew that’s not how you keep loyal customers. The final straw was a stop at the Inglewood Walgreens on La Brea. They had to believe I was a desperado with nothing to lose by how management (a manager that could pass for Faizon Love’s twin by the way) was breathing down my neck. I was still treated like a threat even as I paid for the product in plain view. I can go into more detail about it ironically tacking place in Inglewood where I call home, but let your imagination run wild.
I had to go without my mouthwash for a long time, because that day I said my goodbyes. But think about customers who have a serious medical need like buying blood test strips or even needing to get gripe water for their baby. Walgreens and the like are beyond disgraceful. I’ve gone on to solely purchase Dr. T through Amazon, but I’m not surprised about the shooting in Hollywood, that’s how they roll. Dr. Tichenor’s is not worth my life. It’s called self respect. I don’t know about Walgreens employees, but I’m fortunate to have family that loves me and wants me home in one peace.
In today’s climate it doesn’t have to be a ‘train wreck’ who works for these corporations, now various lowlifes are gunning down or assaulting innocent shoppers. In a society where’s there’s 24 hour commerce, where the almighty dollar rules, it’s resulting in a lot of sick people outnumbering the good people. Let that sink in for some of you punching a clock this Sunday morning. Think about the domino effect it has on your kids and society in general. Nothing is sacred.
